What We Teach
One of the biggest misconceptions about Acting Out Academy is that students need experience before joining us.
They don’t.
Many of the professional actors who began at Acting Out—including Grant Feely—had never acted before coming to their first class.
They didn’t arrive knowing how to break down a script, make strong choices or audition on camera. They came to class to learn.
THAT’S WHAT WE DO.
At Acting Out Academy, students learn how to:
• Understand and break down a script
• Build truthful, connected performances
• Listen and respond naturally on camera
• Create specific characters and relationships
• Make strong, personal acting choices
• Work with scenes from film and television
• Approach auditions and self-tapes with confidence
• Take direction and make adjustments
• Understand the professional acting industry
• Become prepared, collaborative and confident artists
THE ONION METHOD™
Our students train using The Onion Method™, Meg Deusner’s 11-layer approach to truthful acting.
Instead of asking actors to manufacture emotions or “perform” a result, we begin with the facts inside the script. Each discovery leads naturally to the next until the actor is no longer trying to look believable—they are genuinely experiencing the scene.
Stop acting. Start experiencing.
BEGINNERS BELONG HERE
You do not need an agent.
You do not need professional headshots.
You do not need a résumé.
And you definitely do not need to arrive feeling confident.
You come to class to learn, practice and grow.
Our classes welcome kids, teens and adults—from complete beginners taking their first brave step to experienced actors continuing to strengthen their craft.
Every actor starts somewhere.
Maybe this is your somewhere.
